Candidate dead after the convention?

Has anyone seen any timelines where a presidential candidate died by whatever means after being nominated for the presidency?
It seems like a messy scenario, especially if the VP candidate was a non-entity intended to blanace the ticket and attract people rather than a worthwhile spare part for the machine of state.

It kinda happened in "A Giant Sucking Sound" by MaskedPickle. Don't want to spoil too much, but a candidate gets assassinated during the convention and the presidential nomination ends up going to the runner-up in the primaries who was presumed to become the Vice Presidential nominee.
