I'm surprised Saban hasn't used the Saban symbol as the logo yet.......
That's been SBC's logo since it launched in 1974.
Any attempts to change away from it were always met with negative backlash.
Yes, but it'll wait till the 35th anniversary of the network in 2009.
Turner Sports Spinoffs
The spin-off of Turner's sports assets to facilitate the TBS-Paramount merger are now complete and as follows:
The Atlanta Flames (NHL) have been sold to Jerry Bruckheimer.
The Atlanta Hammers (MLB) have been sold to Liberty Media.
The Atlanta Hawks (NBA) have been sold to Arthur Blank who also owns the Falcons (NFL).
Turner's half of the Jacksonville Tomcats (WLAF) has been sold to Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia. However, TBS-Paramount still has the option to extend its licensing agreement with the team.
World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the Goodwill Games have both been acquired by a consortium led by Henson chairman Bob Iger.
As part of Iger's acquisition of WCW and the Goodwill Games, both will be exclusively televised by ESPN, ABC and XYZ going forward.
Tiffany Disney (Mighty Ducks), Gavin Maloof (Silver Knights) and Michael Eisner (Kings) have been reported to be the key swing votes in favor of Bruck's bid for the Flames.

Now with the TBS-Paramount merger approved, there will inevitably be layoffs. Sam Register will now become the head of the newly combined Paramount Animation.

Why has there been backlash with attempts to rebrand?
Because there were those who thought the original Abstract S would never be changed.
AKA nostalgia blinded people?
It doesn't even have to be completely retired. Just have the new logo be a reference to the old one, and maybe have the old logo pop up every once in a while.
